MLB 2026: Batting titles and division winners announced

Overview

The 2026 Major League Baseball season concluded with historic individual achievements and significant divisional milestones. In the American League, Yordan Alvarez secured the batting title with a .316 average, becoming the fourth Cuban-born player to achieve the feat. His season, which included 42 home runs, 105 RBIs, and a 1.036 OPS, has positioned him as the frontrunner for the AL MVP award. Alvarez’s production fueled a major comeback for the Houston Astros; despite a 20-31 record and 16 players on the injury list, the team clinched the AL West division title via a head-to-head advantage over the Texas Rangers. The Astros are scheduled to host the Chicago White Sox in a best-of-three Wild Card Series at Daikin Park. Junior Caminero continued his record-breaking run with the Tampa Bay Rays, becoming the first player in franchise history to record consecutive 40-home run seasons. His 2026 campaign featured 42 home runs and 101 RBIs, helping the Rays clinch the AL East division title and secure the top seed for the playoffs. As the team prepares for the American League Division Series against the New York Yankees, Caminero enters the postseason with a .360 on-base percentage and the highest performance metrics on the Rays roster. Caminero was also named the inaugural “MLB Baja Blast Champion,” an award recognizing the player who hits the most home runs traveling 420 feet or more during the regular season. He led Major League Baseball with 21 such home runs. Additionally, at 22 years old, he became the youngest player since 1900 to hit home runs in six consecutive games. In the National League, Gabriel Moreno of the Arizona Diamondbacks won the batting title with a .311 average, narrowly defeating Luis Arráez.
