Junior Caminero named first MLB Baja Blast Champion

Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero has been named the inaugural MLB Baja Blast Champion. The award, sponsored by Mountain Dew Baja Blast, recognizes the player who hits the most home runs traveling 420 feet or more during the regular season.

Caminero secured the title by leading Major League Baseball with 21 home runs exceeding the 420-foot threshold. To commemorate the achievement, he received a custom Champion Box containing a commemorative bat, a custom jersey, and more than 420 cans of the soft drink.

In addition to the distance-based award, Caminero’s season was marked by significant offensive and defensive milestones. At 22 years old, he became the youngest player since 1900 to hit home runs in six consecutive games and led all MLB third basemen in both home runs and RBIs.
