Junta Central Electoral assets seized in New York over debt

A New York City Marshal has authorized the seizure and subsequent public auction of assets belonging to the Dominican Republic’s Central Electoral Board (JCE) located in Manhattan. The action follows a federal court ruling from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, which ordered the JCE to pay Latin Events, LLC approximately US$838,337.50.

Due to accumulated interest, surcharges, and legal expenses, the total debt has risen to approximately US$982,261.88. The seizure targets movable property at the JCE office on Broadway, including office equipment, computers, printers, electronic devices, furniture, televisions, and artwork.

A public auction is scheduled for October 1, 2026, at 9:00 AM, unless the JCE settles the full amount at least 72 hours prior to the date. Legal proceedings regarding this debt are also active in the Dominican Republic, where the U.S. sentence has been recognized by local courts.
