Junta Central Electoral denies PLD request for election equipment

The Junta Central Electoral (JCE) has denied a request from the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD) to borrow 1,800 technological devices for its internal presidential consultation scheduled for October 18, 2026. In a communication signed by JCE President Román Jáquez Liranzo, the electoral body stated that such an event is not permitted under current electoral laws during this specific stage of the electoral calendar.

While the JCE approved a smaller loan of 500 devices for political training and institutional strengthening, it rejected the additional equipment requested for the presidential aspirant poll. The PLD maintains its scheduled date for the consultation, which aims to gauge support among its members for potential presidential candidates. The party is currently evaluating alternative technological solutions to manage the logistics of the event.

Separately, the Dominican Judicial Power has issued a statement denying claims of a major cyberattack. The institution clarified that technical verifications found no unauthorized extraction of sensitive or private information, asserting that the data allegedly leaked by a user known as 'jarol1488' consists of public information already available through institutional consultation mechanisms.
