Cambrils Junts councilors split over move to Aliança Catalana

Aliança Catalana, a new right‑wing party in Catalonia led by Silvia Orriols, is seeking to expand ahead of the 2027 municipal elections. The party has attracted attention for its anti‑immigration stance and for positioning itself as a successor to post‑process disillusioned voters.

In the coastal town of Cambrils, Junts councilor Enric Daza announced he will stand as the Aliança Catalana candidate for mayor and indicated that the three Junts councilors would join the party. However, the two other councilors, Teresa Recasens and Laura Mellau, publicly denied any pact with Aliança Catalana, stating they have not agreed to switch parties and will continue working for Junts. Their statements contradict reports that the entire Junts group would transfer to Aliança Catalana.
