Turkey launches major operations into Yazıcıoğlu crash and MASAK espionage probes

Turkish authorities have launched major operations involving two distinct investigations. In the first, a second wave of operations across 16 provinces targets suspects in the investigation of the 2009 helicopter crash that killed BBP founder Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu. Justice Minister Akın Gürlek stated that 47 suspects are facing legal action, with 33 detained, 10 already in prison, and 4 fugitives being sought. The probe examines whether FETÖ/PDY members participated in premeditated murder and if they manipulated search-and-rescue efforts or witnesses to obstruct the truth.

In a second investigation, authorities are probing unauthorized access to the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) Integrated Financial Intelligence System (EMIS). This espionage investigation revealed that the protection system for Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) was disabled, allowing unauthorized queries regarding President Erdoğan, his relatives, and several ministers. Investigators found that FETÖ-linked companies, including AGMLAB A. Ş. and MRD A. Ş., were involved in the system's development and maintenance between 2012 and 2018. Consequently, courts have appointed trustees from the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) to these companies.
