Justice Omar Sial begins judicial inquiry into Mir Raza Ali murder
A judicial commission led by Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial has commenced proceedings into the death of entrepreneur Mir Raza Ali. The inquiry aims to examine the circumstances surrounding Ali's disappearance on July 28 and the subsequent discovery of his body with gunshot wounds near the University of Karachi.
Justice Sial has assured the victim's family that the inquiry will be conducted transparently and openly, noting that previous actions in the case had occurred “behind closed doors.” The commission's mandate is to identify shortcomings in the initial investigation, evaluate police performance, and check for any negligence or misconduct by government personnel, including the medico-legal team.
While the commission will not conduct a new investigation itself, it is tasked with assessing whether evidence was concealed or tampered with. The proceedings have involved legal representative Jibran Nasir and the victim's family, who expressed a lack of confidence in the existing investigation. The inquiry is expected to be completed within a 30-day timeframe.
