Justicia para Nuestros Deudos demands apology in Plenitud Crematorium case

Fourteen months after the discovery of the Plenitud Crematorium, members of the Justicia para Nuestros Deudos collective in Ciudad Juárez have demanded a public apology from government representatives and the disclosure of funeral homes involved in the case.

Spokesperson Dora Elena Delgado met with Carlos Ortiz Villegas, the governor’s representative in Juárez, to submit a formal petition. Delgado rejected previous statements by Ortiz that characterized government actions as “acts of good faith,” arguing that the only good faith shown was by the families who trusted institutions with their loved ones. The collective represents more than 1,600 affected families.

In addition to an apology, the group is demanding official information regarding the identification of remains and the specific responsibilities of involved institutions. They are calling for investigations into the oversight roles of the Ministry of Health and Coespris. According to reports attributed to the Prosecutor's Office, 265 of the 386 bodies found at the site had been identified as of August 11, leaving 121 pending identification.
