Overview

In late July 2026, a federal judge in Chihuahua issued a provisional amparo that temporarily suspended the arrest warrant for José Luis A. C., the owner of Crematorio Plenitud in Ciudad Juárez. This suspension halted pending detention and a potential Interpol Red Notice regarding the alleged mishandling of more than 1,600 remains.

By early August 2026, the suspension was revoked after the owner failed to comply with required conditions, such as appearing before the criminal court. The revocation re-activated the arrest warrant. The group suggested pursuing an Interpol Red Notice and offering a reward for information, reporting sightings of the individual in El Paso, Texas. The collective also criticized the prosecutor's office for a perceived lack of firmness and challenged the 10,000 peso guarantee previously set as a condition for the initial suspension.

Fourteen months after the discovery of the crematorium, the collective has expanded its demands, calling for a public apology from government representatives and the disclosure of other funeral homes involved. They are also seeking official information regarding the identification of remains and investigations into the oversight roles of the Ministry of Health and Coespris. As of August 11, 2026, reports indicated that 265 of the 386 bodies found at the site had been identified, leaving 121 pending identification.
