Justin Steele could return to Chicago Cubs rotation this weekend
Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell has indicated that left-hander Justin Steele could be an option for the team this weekend. Steele has been sidelined for much of the season following elbow surgery in 2025 due to a left elbow flexor strain.
Steele recently completed a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs, where he posted a 4.70 ERA across four outings. His final rehab appearance on September 18 saw him pitch two innings, striking out five batters without allowing a hit or a run.
Following a scheduled bullpen session, the team will evaluate Steele's readiness for a potential return to the Major League roster. While he is expected to return to a starting role in 2027, the team may utilize him out of the bullpen for the remainder of this season as they approach the postseason.
