Jyotiraditya Scindia unveils Rs 350 crore in Mizoram development projects
Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia conducted a two-day visit to Mizoram, where he inaugurated several development projects and engaged with local students. During his visit, Scindia unveiled projects worth approximately Rs 350 crore, including the inauguration of the Aizawl Institute of Arts and Music for the Northeastern Region.
Addressing the North East Bankers' Conclave 3.0 in Aizawl, Scindia reported that 6,905 of 9,479 identified villages in the Northeast have been linked to banking and postal services. To improve accessibility, the government has lowered the population threshold for establishing brick-and-mortar bank branches from 3,000 to 2,000 in the Northeastern states. He also noted that 90.2 per cent of non-branch transactions in the region are now conducted via the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
At Mizoram University, Scindia interacted with students participating in the Ashtalakshmi Darshan Programme, an initiative designed to foster national integration by exposing youth from across India to the Northeast's cultural diversity. He encouraged students to become innovators and problem-solvers to support the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Scindia emphasized that improved connectivity, such as the Bairabi-Sairang railway line, is transforming the region into a significant contributor to India's economic growth.
