Development initiatives in Mizoram

Overview

Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia conducted a two-day visit to Mizoram to inaugurate development projects valued at approximately Rs 350 crore. These initiatives include the Aizawl Institute of Arts and Music for the Northeastern Region.

During the visit, Scindia addressed the North East Bankers' Conclave 3.0, noting that 6,905 of 9,479 identified villages in the Northeast are now linked to banking and postal services. He highlighted government efforts to improve accessibility by lowering the population threshold for establishing bank branches from 3,000 to 2,000 in Northeastern states. Additionally, he noted that 90.2 per cent of non-branch transactions in the region are now conducted via the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

Scindia also engaged with students at Mizoram University through the Ashtalakshmi Darshan Programme, an initiative aimed at fostering national integration. He emphasized that improved connectivity, such as the Bairabi-Sairang railway line, is essential for transforming the region into a contributor to India's economic growth.
