Marmaris forest fire controlled after naval and air intervention

A major forest fire broke out in the Yalancıboğaz area of Marmaris, Muğla, specifically near Kabakargı Bay. Due to the steep and difficult terrain, land access was nearly impossible, necessitating a massive coordinated response involving air, sea, and land assets.

Authorities utilized landing ships from the Aksaz Naval Base to transport water tenders, heavy machinery, and firefighting personnel directly to the fire zone. The Coast Guard also supported operations using boats and large water cannons. The firefighting effort included 217 personnel, 7 aircraft, 16 helicopters, and 82 land units. Night vision-equipped helicopters were deployed to continue operations after dark.

After approximately 20 hours of intense fighting, the fire was brought under control. Cooling operations are currently underway to prevent reignition. Local fisherman Yusuf Balcı was noted for his volunteer efforts, using a zodiac boat to transport equipment, supplies, and personnel to areas inaccessible to larger vessels.
