Škabrnja opens Memorial Center for Homeland War victims

A new Memorial Center and memorial room dedicated to the victims of the Homeland War have been opened in Škabrnja. The opening took place during the Municipality of Škabrnja Day, marking the period leading up to the 35th anniversary of the events of November 18, 1991.

Croatian officials, including Minister of Demography and Settlements Ivan Šipić and Minister of Croatian Veterans Tomo Medved, attended the ceremony. The memorial space is intended to serve as an educational site for future generations to learn about the defense of the area and the crimes committed during the war. Officials emphasized that the center will help preserve the truth about the sacrifices made by defenders and civilians.

In addition to commemorating the past, officials noted the town's recent demographic recovery. The municipality has implemented measures to support families, including birth subsidies ranging from 400 to 2,000 euros and assistance for students, contributing to a positive natural population increase in 2025.
