Kaduna governorship race 2027: NDC demands fresh primary as Uba Sani faces Isa Ashiru
The Kaduna State chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the party’s national leadership of imposing a governorship candidate for the 2027 election. The state office warned that members are being denied their constitutional right to elect a flag‑bearer and called for a fresh primary or consensus process supervised by INEC, citing Sections 36 and 87 of the Electoral Act 2026.
The same contest pits incumbent Governor Uba Sani against long‑time challenger Isa Ashiru, who views the 2027 ballot as his final realistic chance to become governor. Analysts note that Ashiru, free from governing duties, may devote full effort to a hard‑harsh campaign, while Sani must balance his incumbency responsibilities with a disciplined re‑election strategy.
