Kaduna State political and administrative tensions

Political tensions in Kaduna State have emerged surrounding the 2027 governorship race and the management of state institutions. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) state chapter has accused its national leadership of imposing a candidate, demanding a fresh primary to protect members’ constitutional rights to elect a flag-bearer. This internal party dispute occurs as incumbent Governor Uba Sani faces a potential challenge from Isa Ashiru.

Concurrently, political friction has extended to state administration and education funding. African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Isah Mohammed Ashiru has accused the Sani administration of neglecting the education sector, specifically citing the resignation of approximately 200 professors from Kaduna State University (KASU). While the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened strikes over unpaid allowances, KASU officials have disputed the scale of resignations, claiming ‘barely 50’ staff members have left. The state government has defended its performance by citing significant budget allocations toward education.
