Kaduna launches maternal and child health policy
The Kaduna state government has launched a new policy and set of guidelines for Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) to improve maternal and child health outcomes. This initiative includes the deployment of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) consumables and equipment to selected primary healthcare centres across the state.
Supported by UNICEF and Global Affairs Canada (GAC), the program also establishes Adolescent and Young People (AYP) Safe Spaces. These spaces are designed to provide youth with confidential and accessible platforms for health information, counseling, and appropriate services.
Deputy Governor Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, representing Governor Uba Sani, stated that the interventions aim to ensure quality healthcare is accessible regardless of age, location, or economic status. The state continues to prioritize the health sector under its SUSTAIN Agenda, allocating at least 15 per cent of the state budget to healthcare.
