Kaduna State targets 100,000 out-of-school children, boosts school feeding

The Kaduna State government, together with development partners, is accelerating a programme to bring roughly 100,000 out‑of‑school children back into classrooms under the Reaching Out‑of‑School Children (ROOSC) project. Save the Children International, the Education Above All Foundation, the Kuwait Fund, Qatar Fund for Development, the Islamic Development Bank and the Global Partnership for Education are providing support for school construction, teacher training, community mobilisation, child protection and inclusive education. A recent mapping exercise covered 363,319 households and identified 187,719 out‑of‑school children, giving the partners reliable data for targeted interventions.

In parallel, the Kaduna State School Feeding Programme, fully funded by the state, is supplying nutritious meals to students in public boarding schools. Officials say the initiative eliminates feeding costs and school charges for parents, improves child health and supports better learning outcomes. The programme is highlighted as a flagship social‑intervention of Governor Uba Sani’s administration.
