Kahbub highlands see intense fighting near Bab el-Mandeb

Intense fighting has erupted in the Kahbub highlands, a strategic mountainous area overlooking the Bab el-Mandeb strait in Yemen. Houthi militia forces have launched repeated attacks to secure positions on the western coast and expand their influence near this critical maritime corridor.

Southern Forces, supported by Al-Subayhah tribes, reported repelling these advances. Military sources indicate that the Houthi group deployed the “Al-Ruzami” battalions, also known as the “Battalions of Death,” which are elite units directly linked to the group's leadership.

The clashes have resulted in significant casualties among the Houthi forces, including several field commanders. Reports state that the Southern Forces successfully prevented a breakthrough, destroying multiple vehicles and utilizing drones and artillery to defend the heights. The control of Kahbub is considered vital for monitoring coastal movements and securing supply lines between the Yemeni interior and the Red Sea.
