Kahramanmaraş historic market and neighborhoods revive after Feb 6 earthquakes

In Kahramanmaraş, restoration work on the historic Bezirganlar Bazaar has allowed merchants to reopen their stalls, reviving commercial activity in the city’s old market district. Vendor Fahri Akgül praised the state‑led renovation, saying the new layout and decorations bring the bazaar back to its former splendour and will attract shoppers once the nearby Dere Market reopens.

Meanwhile, the city’s Derepazarı and Azerbaijan neighbourhoods are undergoing a modernisation programme that widens streets, adds aesthetic landscaping and creates new public spaces. Residents such as Uğur Cengiz Bağcı, Ramazan Efe Kurt and Ali Kemal Kurt reported that the new infrastructure, including separate bus lanes and a regulated river channel, has transformed the once cramped area into a more livable and attractive urban zone.
