Kai Tak Hospital begins first phase of operations in Hong Kong

Kai Tak Hospital, Hong Kong’s largest public hospital, has officially commenced its first phase of operations in Kowloon Bay. The initial rollout focuses on the Family Medicine Integrated Centre, which provides 350 general outpatient slots daily.

The hospital is being implemented in stages to manage what officials describe as the largest hospital relocation project in Hong Kong’s history. This process involves gradually transferring services from Queen Elizabeth Hospital to the new 2,400-bed facility.

Following the current phase, specialist outpatient services including surgery, neurosurgery, and clinical oncology are scheduled to begin on October 26. On November 12, internal medicine services will be relocated from Queen Elizabeth Hospital, with the goal of reaching 1,800 daily patient visits by the end of the year. The final phase, expected in 2028, will introduce accident and emergency services and additional specialties such as pediatrics and gynecology.
