Kaşif Kozinoğlu investigation: Grave to be exhumed as suspects detained
Authorities in Turkey have reopened the investigation into the 2011 death of former MİT official Kaşif Kozinoğlu at Silivri Prison. While his death was originally attributed to a heart attack, new evidence and a decision by the Silivri Criminal Court of Peace to overturn a 2012 non-prosecution ruling have prompted a deeper inquiry into potential negligence or foul play.
The Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has ordered the exhumation of Kozinoğlu's grave in Ümraniye Hekimbaşı to collect tissue samples. These samples will undergo toxicological and chemical analysis to determine if he was administered unauthorized medications or if the vitamins and Coraspin he requested were properly provided.
Law enforcement operations have resulted in multiple waves of detentions. An initial group of 11 prison staff members was targeted, with 10 individuals detained and one identified as a fugitive. A second wave of operations has expanded the scope to include medical personnel, such as a doctor and ambulance drivers, as well as a journalist and cameraman. One suspect, a former gendarme, has been arrested, while others remain under judicial control or have been released.
