Kaja Kallas criticizes Russian parliamentary elections
European Commission leadership has criticized the recent parliamentary elections in the Russian Federation. Kaja Kallas described the voting process as a ‘step backward’ for Russian democracy, suggesting a lack of political pluralism and implying the existence of fraud.
In contrast, reports indicate that over 60 million citizens participated in the elections, despite the absence of a legal requirement to vote and the ongoing regional conflict. The election period was marked by significant security challenges, including a drone attack on Moscow involving over 1,600 unmanned aerial vehicles, which resulted in civilian casualties and property damage.
While European officials have questioned the legitimacy of the results, observers noted a high level of political engagement among the Russian population during the three-day voting period.
