Kalamata advances youth and sports infrastructure projects
The Municipality of Kalamata is pursuing several major development initiatives. The Municipal Committee has approved an application for the city to participate in the ‘European Youth Capital 2027’ program. This initiative aims to promote active participation among citizens aged 15 to 29 and strengthen ties between young people and the local community.
Simultaneously, the Municipality and the Peloponnese Region are moving forward with the construction of the Kalamata Regional Sports Center in the Paliambela area. The project has a proposed budget of €20 million and is planned for a 45,068 square meter site. The complex will feature a 3,500-seat indoor gymnasium, a 300-seat indoor swimming pool, football and basketball courts, and extensive green spaces.
The Peloponnese Regional Committee has also approved the submission of a funding proposal for the sports center to the Ministry of Interior’s Sectoral Development Program (2026–2030). The Peloponnese Region will act as the implementing body, while the Municipality of Kalamata will provide the land and manage the facility upon completion.
