Kalamata International Dance Festival 2026 kicks off with global acts

The 32nd International Dance Festival in Kalamata runs from 17 to 26 July 2026, featuring performances across the Megaro Dance venue, public squares, the archaeological site of Ancient Messene and other towns in the Peloponnese. The program includes twelve international choreographers—among them French artist Yoann Bourgeois, who opens the festival with his gravity‑defying piece “He Who Falls”—and twelve Greek creators.

Highlights include Jefta van Dinther’s “Mercury Rising”, a work designed for both deaf and hearing audiences; the collaborative “Tempo” by Finnish‑Brazilian duo Kalle Nio & Fernando Melo; and Marlene Monteiro Freitas’s explosive live piece “Guintche”. The National Lyric Stage (ELΣ) presents two productions: the ballet “Τόσαις φοραίς τόσο κοντά να είμαι”, featuring music by Giorgos Koumantakis, and the student showcase “Metamorphosis”. Artistic director Jenni Argyris (Τζένη Αργυρίου) frames the festival as a map of contemporary bodily expression amid social and technological upheavals.
