Kalamata hosts 32nd International Dance Festival with performers from ten countries

The 32nd International Dance Festival took place in Kalamata, Greece, from 14 to 23 July. The event featured modern dance productions from 10 countries across four continents, including Chinese choreographer Tao Che and his Tao Dance Theater, Canadian Out Innerspace Dance Theatre & Film Society, Portuguese Marco da Silva Ferreira, and a collaboration with the Venice Biennale of Dance.

Performances were staged on the central stage, in the Black Box of the Municipal Dance Center, on the city’s central square, and in three other towns of the Peloponnese region – Sparta, Tripoli and Nafplio. The festival draws thousands of visitors each year, supporting Kalamata’s tourism renewal and highlighting the city’s mix of historic architecture, seaside location, and vibrant cultural life.

Local media noted residents’ mixed feelings about municipal services, but overall the festival underscored Kalamata’s role as a growing tourist destination in the Mediterranean.
