Kalashnikov unveils AK-12+ assault rifle for special forces

Kalashnikov has unveiled the AK-12+ assault rifle prototype in Vladivostok. While the standard AK-12 was introduced in 2018 to replace the AK-74 as part of the Ratnik equipment set, the AK-12+ is a specialized, high-end version designed specifically for elite special forces units.

The upgraded rifle focuses on high precision and effectiveness at medium ranges under various combat conditions, including night operations and limited visibility. Key design improvements include a thicker barrel to increase rigidity, reduce vibration, and manage heat during continuous fire. Engineers also expanded the gas chamber to accommodate the new barrel shape.

To maximize accuracy and modularity, the design removes traditional muzzle attachments like bayonet lugs and grenade launchers. Instead, the muzzle features threading to allow for the installation of advanced equipment such as suppressors and muzzle brakes. The rifle also features an extended handguard for better control and is designed for integration with modern optical and electronic sighting systems. The AK-12+ is currently in the mass production stage.
