Overview

The Kalashnikov Group has introduced and delivered several modernized weapon systems for specialized Russian military units.

In early September 2026, the company unveiled the AK-12+ assault rifle prototype in Vladivostok. Designed for elite special forces, this high-end version of the standard AK-12 features a thicker barrel for improved rigidity and heat management, an expanded gas chamber, and a threaded muzzle for suppressors and brakes. The design prioritizes precision and modularity by removing traditional attachments like bayonet lugs.

By mid-September 2026, the group fulfilled state contracts by delivering a large shipment of modernized SVDS sniper rifles. These specialized variants of the SVD Dragunov are intended for airborne forces, marines, and special operations. The SVDS features a compact design with a folding metal stock and polymer components to improve ergonomics for soldiers in heavy armor. Due to battlefield demand, production of the SVDS reportedly increased thirteenfold in 2025 compared to 2024.
