Kalavryta exhibition celebrates 100 years of Karagiozis

The municipality of Kalavryta is hosting the exhibition “100 years of Karagiozis – From the Mants to the Museum,” co‑organized by the Museum of Modern Greek Culture and the Panhellenic Association of Shadow Theatre. The show is part of Kalavryta’s Cultural Summer 2026 programme and opens on Saturday 18 July 2026 at 19:00 in the stone building on Petmezai Square, running until 20 September 2026.

The exhibition displays figures, sets, recordings, photographs, archival material and digital content that trace the evolution of Greek shadow‑theatre from the late 19th century to the present, highlighting its social‑political role and artistic influence. An opening‑night performance of Karagiozis titled “Geia sou Giannare,” accompanied by a live folk orchestra from the Black Theatre of Patras, follows the inauguration. In September 2026 the organisers will run educational activities for school groups, and guided tours are offered to the public throughout the exhibition period.
