Kalavryta forest fire triggers ground and aerial response

A forest fire broke out in the Rogoi area of Kalavryta, Achaia, on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 18, 2026. The incident was reported around 18:30, prompting an immediate response from the Fire Service.

Emergency responders deployed 10 firefighters, including a specialized hiking team from the 6th EMODE, to tackle the flames in difficult terrain. The ground operation included two vehicles for personnel and equipment transport. An aerial response was also utilized, with a helicopter performing water drops to assist in containing the blaze.

Thunderstorm activity in the broader region has been noted as a significant factor, increasing the risk of new fire outbreaks.
