Kalipolis Center to host teacher training on adolescent addiction
The Kalipolis Center for Addiction Prevention & Psychosocial Health Promotion in Achaia, in collaboration with the National Organization for Combating Addictions (OKENAS) and the Directorate of Secondary Education of Achaia, is organizing a training program for educators titled ‘Addictions and the Adolescent Brain: An Approach to the Neurobiological Basis of Addiction in Adolescence.’
The session, scheduled for October 29, 2026, will feature Marigoula Margariti, former Professor of Human and Animal Physiology at the University of Patras, as the keynote speaker. The program aims to strengthen the pedagogical role of teachers, enabling them to better respond to the modern needs of teenagers and foster a protective school environment.
Key objectives include explaining the neurobiological foundations of both substance addictions (such as alcohol, nicotine, and drugs) and behavioral addictions (including gaming, social media, and gambling). The training will specifically address the asymmetrical maturation of the adolescent brain, focusing on the gap between the prefrontal cortex, which governs logic and impulse control, and the limbic system, which manages emotions and rewards.
