Greek addiction prevention and teacher training initiatives
Overview
Addiction prevention and psychosocial health organizations in Greece are expanding local outreach and educational training programs. In Komotini, the ‘Orfeas’ Center for Addiction Prevention and Psychosocial Health Promotion has begun collaborating with the Municipality of Komotini to coordinate community awareness and prevention interventions for children, adolescents, and families.
In Kifisia, the ‘Pronoi’ Addiction Prevention Center is organizing the ‘BOYS & GIRLS PLUS’ seminar for teachers to help protect adolescents from substance abuse, peer pressure, and unregulated internet use. Similarly, in Achaia, the Kalipolis Center for Addiction Prevention & Psychosocial Health Promotion, in partnership with OKENAS and the Directorate of Secondary Education, is hosting a training program titled ‘Addictions and the Adolescent Brain.’ This session focuses on the neurobiological basis of substance and behavioral addictions, such as gaming and social media, to help educators better support the developmental needs of teenagers.
