Kallithea, Greece: 15-year-old fatally stabbed in gang clash

On the night of 24 June 2026 a violent clash between rival youth groups erupted in the Kallithea district of Athens. Seventeen participants were identified; seven were arrested while ten minors and three adults remain under investigation. The incident ended when a 17‑year‑old assailant delivered a single knife wound just below the victim’s heart, killing a 15‑year‑old boy. A forensic examination confirmed the fatal stab and found no signs of a struggle, refuting the assailant’s claim that he acted in self‑defence. Police say the motive involved fan‑group rivalries and previous disputes between the groups. In addition to the seven detainees, the case file includes 18 parents charged with failure to supervise their children. The family of the victim, represented by lawyers, has called for the “strictest possible punishment” and warned against media speculation. Authorities continue to search for ten additional suspects and are examining weapons, personal items and video footage collected at the scene. The investigation remains active as prosecutors prepare charges of premeditated murder, aggravated assault, illegal weapon possession and related offences.
