Kallithea Youth Murder Trial Sends Three Suspects to Pre‑trial Detention

Six of the seven suspects charged in the fatal assault of a 15‑year‑old in Kallithea, Greece, appeared before a judge on 29 June. Three were ordered to remain in pre‑trial detention, while the other three were released under restrictive conditions; a seventh suspect is hospitalized and did not appear.

The victim died after a second melee in the narrow streets surrounding Kallithea’s central square. One 18‑year‑old, who confessed to being the primary attacker, told investigators, “I shouted at the victim that the 18‑year‑old had a knife… I saw the victim fall in the blood and began to call for help.” Other accused youths claimed they acted in self‑defence or were not present for the fatal blow, describing two separate clashes – an initial confrontation among three groups and a later slash that killed the boy. The motive was reported as a mix of personal rivalry and fan‑group hostility.

The court rejected the defence arguments, keeping the three main suspects in custody while imposing travel and reporting restrictions on the others.
