IEBC denies claims of illegal voter registration in Kenya
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has dismissed allegations of electoral malpractice, including the illegal registration of foreigners and unlawful voter transfers ahead of the 2027 General Election. The commission stated that no credible evidence has been provided to support claims that citizens from neighboring countries, specifically Uganda, are being registered as Kenyan voters.
Opposition leader Kalonzo Musyoka has accused the administration of President William Ruto of attempting to influence the upcoming polls through political mobilization along the Kenya-Uganda border. Musyoka specifically questioned recent cross-border engagements led by government officials, alleging they are linked to efforts to bring foreign voters into the Kenyan electoral process.
In response to these tensions, the IEBC clarified that its mandate is limited to registering eligible Kenyan citizens with valid identification and that it does not issue national identity cards or passports, as those are handled by other state agencies.
