Kamishli-Nusaybin Border Crossing reopening work begins

The Syrian administration has announced the commencement of construction work to reopen the Kamishli-Nusaybin Border Crossing, which has been closed since 2012 following the start of the Syrian civil war. This project is intended to serve as the seventh border crossing point between Turkey and Syria.

Mazin Allush, Director of International Relations and Cooperation at the Syrian General Directorate of Border Crossings and Customs, stated that technical preparation, including excavation and leveling, has begun. The project will be implemented in stages as part of a comprehensive plan to renew and improve border infrastructure.

The crossing will cover approximately 558,000 square meters. Initial phases will focus on organizing areas for import and export cargo, as well as zones for transit transportation. Planned facilities include a management building, passenger halls, customs units, and staff housing. The project aims to increase trade volume, support the economy, develop transit transport through Syria, and reduce congestion at existing border crossings while shortening travel times for citizens and transporters.
