Kamishli-Nusaybin border crossing reopening

Overview

The Syrian administration has initiated construction work to reopen the Kamishli-Nusaybin border crossing between Syria and Turkey. The crossing has remained closed since 2012 at the onset of the Syrian civil war.

Mazin Allush, Director of International Relations and Cooperation at the Syrian General Directorate of Border Crossings and Customs, confirmed that technical preparations, such as excavation and leveling, have commenced. The project is expected to be implemented in stages to renew and improve border infrastructure across approximately 558,000 square meters.

Planned facilities for the site include management buildings, passenger halls, customs units, and staff housing. The initiative aims to facilitate import and export cargo, develop transit transport through Syria, increase trade volume, and reduce congestion at other existing border crossings.
