Japan sports update: Ajec reaches baseball semifinals and goalball qualifiers announced

Various sports developments are taking place across Japan. The Japan Goalball Association has announced the 2026 Men’s Qualifying Tournament, to be held from September 20–22 at the Butterfly Arena Tokorozawa. Sixteen teams will compete for six spots in the national championship.

In baseball, Ajec made history at the 97th Intercity Baseball Tournament by becoming the first team from Tochigi Prefecture to reach the semifinals after a 4–3 walk-off victory against Toho Gas at the Tokyo Dome.

Additionally, the Japan Summer League 2026 provided a platform for 36 high school seniors from 27 schools across 10 prefectures to compete in Okinawa. The league, which emphasizes data-driven training and career development, allowed players who did not qualify for the Koshien tournament to participate in professional-style matches and receive expert coaching.
