Kankan authorities arrest 39 in drug raid and convict fraudster
Judicial authorities in Kankan, Guinea, have announced several significant legal developments. In a major anti-drug operation targeting trafficking and consumption, 39 individuals were arrested and placed under judicial warrant. The crackdown focused on high-risk areas, including the banks of the Milo River. Prosecutors have opened a judicial inquiry to map the criminal network, identifying roles ranging from transporters to sellers and consumers.
In a separate case, the Court of First Instance of Kankan sentenced Moussa Dioubaté to two years in prison for fraud. Dioubaté was found guilty of defrauding 18 individuals by promising to organize their pilgrimage to Mecca for the 2026 Hajj. He was ordered to pay a fine of 10 million Guinean francs and 1.3 billion Guinean francs in damages to the victims.
Additionally, reports indicated security forces and military personnel were deployed around the Kankan central prison following reports of gunfire in the vicinity on September 29. The public prosecutor has expressed caution regarding the situation at the correctional facility.
