Drug and counterfeit medicine seizures in Ivory Coast

Overview

In Guiglo, Ivory Coast, authorities incinerated over 8.34 tonnes of narcotics and counterfeit or substandard medicines at a municipal landfill. The destruction followed instructions from the public prosecutor and police leadership regarding items seized during special operations conducted between April and October 2026.

The seized materials included approximately 138.76 kg of cannabis, over 8,200 kg of substandard or falsified medicines, and small quantities of cocaine, heroin, and other controlled substances. Thomas Gbossouna Mlanhoro, head of the regional anti-drug police unit, noted that these seizures are part of ongoing nationwide operations by specialized units.
