Kanlaon Volcano erupts on Negros Island, Philippines

Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island, Philippines, underwent a moderately explosive eruption on Saturday afternoon. The event, which lasted approximately two minutes, sent a volcanic plume between five and six kilometers above the summit crater.

Ashfall and sulfur odors were reported in several areas, including La Carlota City, Don Salvador Benedicto, and San Carlos City. Residents in Bago City reported visible volcanic clouds, ground shaking, and booming sounds, though ashfall was not recorded there.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) noted that the plume drifted north-northeast. Alert Level 2 remains in effect, and entry into the volcano’s four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone is strictly prohibited. Local disaster authorities are currently validating reports and coordinating with government units to assess the need for further response measures.
