Kanlaon Volcano eruption in the Philippines

Overview

On October 10, 2026, Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island experienced a moderately explosive eruption lasting approximately two minutes. The eruption sent a volcanic plume between five and six kilometers above the summit crater, causing ashfall, sulfur odors, and ground shaking in several areas, including La Carlota City, Don Salvador Benedicto, and San Carlos City.

By October 13, the volcano remained under Alert Level 2. Satellite data indicated a toxic sulfur dioxide gas cloud reaching heights of up to 15 kilometers and spreading northwesterly toward the provinces of Guimaras, Iloilo, Capiz, and Aklan. Authorities advised residents to stay indoors and use N95 masks to mitigate risks from ash, dust, and ballistic projectiles. A four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone remains in effect, with warnings for communities within six kilometers to remain vigilant.
