Kano Governor Yusuf awards N55.8 million to 1,116 street traders
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf disbursed a total of N55.8 million in grants to 1,116 street hawkers, petty traders, vulcanisers and other youth entrepreneurs across the state. Each beneficiary received N50,000 to strengthen their existing businesses and improve livelihoods.
The grants are part of the administration’s small‑business support programme and represent the second phase of the initiative, following an earlier round that assisted 465 traders. Yusuf said the funding would boost working capital, increase household incomes and create economic opportunities, and pledged additional rounds before the end of the year. The Cottage Trade and Street Hawking Agency, created under the governor’s office, oversees the programme and aims to improve the welfare of informal‑sector operators throughout Kano’s 44 local government areas.
