Kano political shifts intensify as NDC members defect to APC
Political tensions are rising in Kano State ahead of the 2027 presidential election as members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo claimed that Rabiu Kwankwaso’s associates are leaving the party in large numbers and predicted that the people of Kano will eventually support the APC.
Recent defections to the APC include Senator Rufa’i Sani Hanga, Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, and Senator Mas’ud Eljibrin Doguwa, along with other top officials. In response, Dr. Habibu Saleh Mohammed, spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya movement, asserted that the movement remains resilient despite these departures. Mohammed stated that the movement is built on ideology and the aspirations of the people rather than specific individuals, claiming that Kwankwasiyya has maintained strength even after previous high-profile exits.
