Kanpur man detained after hoax bomb threat at Lucknow airport

On July 26, 2026, a false bomb threat call was placed to India's emergency number 112 at around 11:45 p.m., prompting a large‑scale security operation at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow. Teams from the bomb‑disposal squad, dog squad, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the fire brigade swept the entire airport complex, including the cargo terminal and all entry gates, and conducted passenger and baggage checks between midnight and 1 a.m. No explosive device was found and the alert was later declared a hoax.

Police traced the mobile number used for the call to the Kanpur district. investigators identified 30‑year‑old Shyam Sundar, a resident of the Bidhuna area in Jaisinghpur, as the caller. He was arrested in Kanpur and is being questioned about his motive; one source reported he was intoxicated at the time of the call. The case remains under investigation.
