Kanwar Yatra 2026: special trains, buses and traffic diversions in North India

Indian Railways has added special train services to Haridwar and Rishikesh to handle the expected surge of pilgrims for the Kanwar Yatra 2026. State transport departments, including Haryana Roadways, are deploying extra buses on routes such as Ballabhgarh‑Haridwar, with fares set at Rs 385.

Police in Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring districts have imposed traffic diversions and banned heavy vehicles on major corridors, directing trucks and tractors away from city centers and key pilgrimage routes. Light‑vehicle restrictions are also in place from early August.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that the state’s preparations are complete, covering water‑collection points, sanitation, accommodation, transport, security and community kitchens. The water police have been deployed, pink toilets for women will be installed at major sites, and officials warned of strict legal action against any disruption. The pilgrimage is scheduled to begin on July 30 and aims to provide a safe, organized experience for the lakhs of devotees traveling to the “Devbhoomi”.
