Kanwar Yatra 2026 logistical preparations

Indian authorities began rolling out transport and crowd‑management measures ahead of the 2026 Kanwar Yatra. On July 27, Indian Railways introduced special train services to Haridwar and Rishikesh, while state transport departments added extra buses. Police in Uttar Pradesh and neighboring districts imposed traffic diversions and banned heavy vehicles on key pilgrimage routes, and Uttarakhand’s chief minister announced completed preparations for water, sanitation, security and community kitchens.

The following day, Madhya Pradesh’s chief minister Mohan Yadav ordered the establishment of food‑distribution points and pilgrim‑facilitation centres at 15‑20 km intervals along the Yatra route, and called for wayside amenities such as hospitals, trauma units, fuel stations and EV‑charging points. He also announced new train stoppages at the newly built Nishatpura Railway Station to improve rail access ahead of the larger Simhastha 2028 gathering, signalling a coordinated effort across states to support the massive influx of pilgrims.

Together, these actions show a multi‑state rollout of transportation, safety and service infrastructure designed to manage the expected surge of devotees during the Kanwar Yatra.
