Kaohsiung candidate Chang Chi-sheng investigated for election bribery

The Qiaotou District Prosecutors Office is investigating Chang Chi-sheng, an independent candidate for the Kaohsiung City Council, for alleged election bribery. Prosecutors suspect that in May, Chang distributed pastry gift boxes valued at over 490 TWD to eligible voters under the guise of a Mother's Day event.

Additionally, the investigation involves allegations that Chang utilized the influence of his father, former Marine Bureau Director Chang Han-hsiung, and his brother, Ziguan District Fishermen Association General Manager Chang Chun-hua, to help unqualified individuals obtain fisherman status and related subsidies as a form of electoral compensation.

The Kaohsiung District Court has ordered the detention of Chang Han-hsiung and Chang Chun-hua for two months, prohibiting communication with others due to risks of evidence destruction. Chang Chi-sheng was released on bail of 2 million TWD, provided he adheres to a nightly curfew of 11:00 PM.
