Kaohsiung launches aquaculture disaster relief following heavy rains
Following heavy rainfall caused by southwest air currents, the Kaohsiung City Government has announced disaster relief measures for the aquaculture industry. Mayor Chen Chi-mai successfully secured approval from the central government to include all categories of aquaculture products in the cash assistance program.
The Kaohsiung City Marine Bureau stated that applications for aquaculture disaster relief will be accepted from August 26 to September 8. Affected fish farmers are advised to prepare identification, aquaculture registration certificates, and stocking amount reports, and must take photographic evidence of damages to submit to their local district offices.
The city government aims to follow principles of “lenient determination and rapid processing” to assist farmers with post-disaster recovery and mitigate the economic burden caused by flooding, water quality deterioration, and fish escapes.
