Kaohsiung Opens Free Half‑Indoor Parent‑Child Playground

Kaohsiung City opened a new public recreation area on 8 August. The Kaohsiung Parent‑Child Playground occupies the former Taiwan Railways Administration Kaohsiung Machine‑Shop site in Fengshan District, covering about 1.5 ha. The half‑indoor park retains the historic industrial architecture while adding more than 30 free play facilities for children and families, including a cloud‑bounce bed, climbing net, pump‑track, water‑play zone, rock‑climbing wall, and themed rail‑culture exhibits.

The venue operates from 09:00 to 19:00, five to six days a week, with entry free of charge. It is designed for all weather conditions, featuring solar panels, shade structures, mist‑cooling and indoor sections. Visitors can reach the site via Kaohsiung Light Rail to Kaixuan‑Wuchang station (a one‑minute walk), bus routes, or by car using the on‑site parking spaces. The city government also offers a limited‑time free shuttle service on weekends during the opening month. The playground aims to provide a year‑round, family‑friendly space that blends recreation with rail‑heritage education.
